Foods Linked to Mental Health

Much has been said for the link between modern eating habits and physical health. Bad food has been shown to lead to weight problems, acute illness, and chronic disease. Recent studies now show the link between our foods and mental health.

Research in England based on 50 years of data shows a link between foods and mental conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, alzheimer's, adhd, and more. One key reason for a decline in mental health has been the dietary reduction in fresh fruits and vegetables and essential fatty acids. These have been replaced by foods containing saturated fats, sugars, and deficient nutrition.

Report researcher Courtney Van de Weyer said: "The good news is that the diet for a healthy mind is the same as the diet for a healthy body. "The bad news is that, unless there is a radical overhaul of food and farming policies, there won't be healthy and nutritious foods available in the future for people to eat."
